Royal AM coach doesn’t know what ‘unfit’ Andile Mpisane’s skill level is

Royal AM co-coach Khabo Zondo says that it is not possible for him to give an assessment of Andile Mpisane’s skill level because of the player/chairman’s fitness.

Mpisane at 21 years old is the youngest chairman in the league but it is his appearances on the Royal AM bench that have been making headlines.

Zondo wouldn’t give an assessment of Mpisane’s performance in the Macufe Cup friendly competition and begged for patience with the owner’s son.

Accusations of nepotism and cheapening professional football in South Africa have been levelled at Royal AM but Zondo says we should all wait to see how things play out.

“Can we not put pressure on him? Let’s allow him to go through everything,” Zondo told KickOff.

“For now, I’d say let’s not count our chickens before they’ve hatched.

“I think there’s been a bit of progress in terms of his weight being shed.

“At the moment let’s deal with the situation that he is faced with which is the fitness level.

“It also depends on how quickly he adapts to the demands of doing all of that.

“All that will be clear once his fitness level hits the top level. Then we can talk about what is it that he can do.

“Obviously, it has been his wish to do that [lift the trophy], and we had to give him that opportunity.

“He got less time and obviously the game became a little bit quick, he could not get the ball as much as he wanted.”
