Rulani Mokwena explains why he joined Wydad

Just days after parting ways with Mamelodi Sundowns, Rulani Mokwena has joined Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club as their new head coach.

The 37-year-old was unveiled on Thursday as the club’s new coach. Asked why he chose The Red Castle, Mokwena said the team instead chose him.

“Because they chose me,” he said as per iDiski Times.

“They showed so much interest in me, they were on top of my agent, on top of me.

“One wise guy said to me ‘go where you’re loved’ and I feel loved and appreciated by the Wydad fans and that’s why I’m here,” he said.

“Of course, who says no to a club like Wydad? It’s impossible. And the offer was also too good to refuse (laughs).

But I’m happy to be here, I’m very happy to be here.”

Rulani Mokwena’s move to Wydad comes as a surprise given what the coach said last week. Speaking to Sunday World, Rulani Mokwena admitted he was still healing.

“I am sorry I cannot say much. I signed a confidentiality clause with the club and I have to respect that. The wound is still fresh, and I want to recover,” he told the publication last week.
