Rulani Mokwena set to be unveiled by African giants after Alger exit

Rulani Mokwena has reportedly reached an agreement with Libyan giants Al Ittihad over a move to the club.

Hours after parting ways with Algerian side MC Alger, Mokwena has been tipped to takeover at the 18-time league champions.

Mokwena settled well into life at MC Alger, guiding them to the Algerian Super Cup in his opening six months at the club. He was also in cruise control in the league, dominating first position since the start of the season.

His side’s exit from the CAF Champions League would’ve been a bitter pill to swallow. However, not many would’ve predicted such an early exit from the club after his excellent start.

Rulani Mokwena set to join Al Ittihad

According to the latest reports, Rulani Mokwena is set to be unveiled at Libyan giants Al Ittihad in the coming hours.

“Sources have confirmed Al Ittihad have now reached an official agreement with Mokwena, who also made headlines with the off-season signings of Thembinkosi Lorch and Stephane Aziz Ki from Wydad Athletic Club,” an IDiski Times report read.

According to the same publication, Mokwena has signed a two-year deal at Al Ittihad. He’ll be unveiled by the club in the coming day, with all outstanding paperwork expected to be completed immediately.

Rulani’s journey in the coaching world

Al Ittihad is set to become the sixth team Rulani Mokwena has coached. He started his professional head coaching career at Orlando Pirates before moving to Chippa United.

Mokwena then enjoyed a stellar spell leading Mamelodi Sundowns before making the move to Wydad Casablanca. He finally took charge of MC Alger at the beginning of this season.

Rulani Mokwena will now take on a fresh challenge in the form of Al Ittihad. They currently sit top of Pool B in the Libyan top flight standings after 12 matches.
