After a relatively warm to hot week, the province is expected to experience rainfall on Saturday and Sunday.

Residents can expect cool mornings and relatively warm to hot afternoons, with thunderstorms forecast in some areas.

In Johannesburg, temperatures are expected to reach a high of 26°C under partly cloudy skies, with a 60% chance of afternoon thunderstorms.

Sunday will remain relatively warm, with temperatures reaching a peak of 25°C. The chance of rain in the City of Gold drops to 30%.

Thunderstorms expected in parts of Gauteng

In Pretoria, afternoon thunderstorms are forecast on Saturday, with a maximum temperature of 27°C. On Sunday, the likelihood of rain decreases, with temperatures ranging between a minimum of 17°C and a maximum of 27°C.

From Monday, the South African Weather Service has not issued any further severe thunderstorm warnings for Gauteng. However, a cut-off low (COL) system is expected to develop over the western parts of the country.

The cut-off low is forecast to bring a 60% to 80% chance of thundershowers over the central and western interior. Rainfall is expected to reach the northern parts of the country by Wednesday.

Early predictions indicate that temperatures in Gauteng could drop from Thursday evening, with thunderstorms expected again from 27 February onward.
