The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a yellow level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms across parts of Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo and a yellow level 4 warning for KwaZulu-Natal, with residents urged to brace for heavy downpours, hail and strong winds.
Heavy rain
The level 2 alert took effect on Tuesday, 11 November 2025, from 12:00 to 21:59, and applies to Gauteng, the escarpment and highveld of Mpumalanga, and the southwestern bushveld of Limpopo.
According to SAWS, affected areas can expect isolated to scattered thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rain, damaging winds, lightning and hail, which could lead to localised flooding, property damage and travel disruptions.

- Localised flooding of roads, low-lying areas and bridges
- Damage to vehicles, property, informal settlements and infrastructure
- Large amounts of small hail and fallen trees blocking minor roads
Meanwhile, KwaZulu-Natal faces a more severe level 4 warning, valid until Tuesday at 23:59, as a surface trough deepens into the central interior.
The system is expected to trigger scattered to widespread thunderstorms, particularly in the western parts of the province.
SAWS warned that these storms may bring heavy downpours, strong winds, excessive lightning and hail, posing risks to life and property.
