Two people died and one man was critically injured in a shooting at an informal settlement in Tongaat, KwaZulu-Natal, on Saturday.

Two people were killed and one man was critically injured during a shooting at the Rajkumar Informal Settlement in Belvedere, Tongaat, on Saturday.

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) responded after a resident reported gunfire in the area.

Reaction Officers arrived to find Tongaat police already on the scene and in control of the situation.

Critically Injured Man Found Near Stairway

Officers found a 27-year-old man with a single gunshot wound to the left side of his chest. He lay at the bottom of a stairway and was in a critical condition.

Police later discovered two other men about 100 metres from the first victim.

Both had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics from the Provincial Ambulance Service declared them dead at the scene.

Motive for shooting still unknown

Authorities have not yet established the motive for the shooting. Police continue to investigate.
