Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has landed his very first role in a movie with award-winning actor and writer Daniel Kaluuya’s Netflix film, The Kitchen.

DANIEL KALUUYA GETS HIS FOOTBALL IDOL IAN WRIGHT IN HIS FILM

According to The Sun newspaper, Kaluuya is a huge Arsenal and Ian Wright fan. A source told the outlet that the Nope star was the one who directly contacted the football analyst to appear in his film — an opportunity Wright did not hesitate to take.

“Daniel is a massive Gooner, and a huge Ian Wright fan. He’s written this incredible thriller, and wanted Ian to appear.

“So he got in touch, and Ian was delighted – and leapt at the chance,” said the source.

Although Wright has no acting experience, he is reportedly a natural in from of the camera. The football pundit works for BBC Sport and ITV Sport.

“He hasn’t had any acting lessons but after years appearing on Match of the Day – and having recently shot a Marks and Spencer’s gig – he’s actually a natural in front of the camera. He has about four scenes,” the source added.

ABOUT ‘THE KITCHEN’

The Kitchen is set for release in 2023 and Wright be acting alongside Top Boy star Kane Robinson and Jedaiah Bannerman.

As per the Daily Mail, the movie will be set in a dystopian future in London in 2044 in which rising house prices have forced the working classes to live on the outskirts of the city.

“The story follows Izi, a resident of who is desperately trying to find a way out and 12-year-old, Benji, who has lost his mother and is searching for a family, as they battle to survive,” Netflix said.

Speaking about the inspiration for the movie, Kaluuya said: “In 2011, I was in my barbershop and there was a guy boasting about smash and grabs – kids doing million-pound heists in a minute, getting paid £200 (R4000) to do it.

“I saw the potential to unlock a unique story door to the inequality, fatherhood, class, joy, resilience, courage, defiance and care of London.”
