SPOTTED: Here’s Kaizer Chiefs’ big weakness
Kaizer Chiefs’ seven-match unbeaten streak was ended by Chippa United. The same result also exposed the team’s weakness.
We can all see, Kaier Chiefs are still some way from getting on the level of the best team in Mzansi Mamelodi Sundowns.
We’ve found the weak area in Arthur Zwane’s team.

As The South African reported on Saturday evening, Siyabonga Ngezana opened the scoring a minute before half-time, before Siphelele Luthuli’s 54th minute equaliser was followed by an Edmilson Dove own goal on 89 minutes.
The defeat for Chiefs left the Glamour Boys in fourth place when a win could have delivered a morale-boosting climb to the summit of the PSL.
WHERE THE WEAKNESS IS
With Chiefs having beefed up in defence, midfield, and the frontline before the start of the season, the defence and midfield have not been too shabby.
The likes of Zitha Kwinika and Edmilson Dove have been a breath of fresh air and quality. The same can be said of Yusuf Maart in the middle of the pitch.
However, before this weekend, we believed Chiefs hardly had any issues in the wide areas, especially on the left side with Kgoagelo Sekgota.

However, it turns out that the problem is with both Sekgota on the left and Ashley Du Preez on the right. This is by no means saying they’re not good enough.
What we see is a combination of a few telling factors: Crossing, suitability, competition, and a general lack of accuracy.
With Sekgota, the nippy winger does not have direct competition in the number 11 position to challenge and also offer him rest. He looked extremely lethargic against Chippa.
The winger’s crossing, passing, and decision-making also leave a lot to be desired.

As for Du Preez on the right, the former Stellenbosch FC star is a player that thrived on counter-attack football as a number nine or 10.
Expecting him to curate short combination passing and control in tight spaces currently looks doomed to fail. He is a fast, direct hard-runner, rather than a ball-playing or sharp crosser of the ball to Caleb.

In the meantime, the Soweto giants are preparing to host TS Galaxy at Soccer City on Wednesday at 19:30.
