‘The Crown’: Fury as Netflix to show Prince Phillip ‘affair’
Queen’s former press secretary Dickie Arbiter is furious over Netflix reportedly showing Prince Philip pursuing an affair in 'The Crown'.
Just weeks after the Funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, Netflix is going to show Prince Philip pursuing an affair on The Crown according to a report by The Sun.
NETFLIX TO SHOW PRINCE PHILLIP AFFAIR
The Sun reports that Netflix will be showing intimate scenes between Prince Philip and close pal Penny Knatchbull in The Crown. Netflix considered delaying the fifth season of The Crown following the death of Queen Elizabeth II. However, they have decided to go ahead and release season five as planned on 9 November.
Viewers are set to see Prince Philip, who died in April 2021, pursuing an affair with Penny – who is now the Countess Mountbatten of Burma. The Sun reports that Prince Philip and Penny are seen touching hands as he divulges details of his marriage.
According to the publication, the Queen’s former press secretary Dickie Arbiter said: “This is cruel rubbish.”

DICKIE ARBITER: ‘THIS IS VERY DISTASTEFUL’
Arbiter said that this coming in just weeks after Queen Elizabeth II was laid to rest is distasteful. He went on to say that Penny was a long-time friend of the family but the streaming platform is not interested in people’s feelings.
“Coming just weeks after the nation laid Her Majesty to rest next to Prince Philip, this is very distasteful and, quite frankly, cruel rubbish,” he said.
“The truth is that Penny was a long-time friend of the whole family. Netflix are not interested in people’s feelings,” he continued.
He went on to slam the streaming platform for “bad taste”. Arbiter went on to say that it is fiction.
“It’s in exceedingly bad taste,” he said.
“This is fiction. There’s no way in a million years he’d discuss his marriage with anybody. The royals probably won’t watch it for their own sanity” he continued.
