The department of health has announced a series of initiatives to assist the healthcare sector through the ongoing rolling blackouts.

Among the most important of those is exempting hospitals from load shedding.

According to BusinessTech the South African Medical Association (SAMA) warned that there’s a very serious chance that those requiring emergency surgery, having a child at a hospital or in ICU could face serious complications because of load shedding.

In a media briefing on Friday, 30 September, health minister Joe Phaahla listed the following hospitals as exempt:
