Tiger Brands recalls baby powder after asbestos detected
Tiger Brands is pulling certain baby powder products from the shelves after trace levels of asbestos were detected in test samples.
Tiger Brands announced it is recalling certain Purity Essentials Baby Powder products on Wednesday, 7 September, after trace levels of asbestos were found in test samples of the talc raw material used in the products.
TIGER BRANDS BABY TALCUM POWDER RECALL
The affected products include:
- Purity & Elizabeth Anne’s Fresh Baby Powder (400g)
- Purity Essentials Baby Powder / Purity & Elizabeth Anne’s Essentials Baby Powder (400g)
- Purity Essentials Baby Powder / Purity & Elizabeth Anne’s Essentials Baby Powder (200g)
- Purity Essentials Baby Powder / Purity & Elizabeth Anne’s Essentials Baby Powder (100g)
Tiger Brands said the products were being recalled as a precautionary measure as the affected batch of raw materials does not meet its quality and safety standards.
Customers are encouraged to return any of the affected products to their nearest stockist for a cash or coupon refund. Purity Baby Cornstarch Powder and any other Purity products are not affected by the recall.
Financial publication, Fin24, reported that Tiger Brands’ share price on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) dropped by almost 8% on Wednesday morning even though the financial impact of the recall is not material to the group’s results.
