US President Donald Trump on Saturday announced 25 percent tariffs on two of its largest trading partners, Canada and Mexico, in a move that is as much “motivated by politics as it is economics”, said Peter Trubowitz, professor of International Relations and Director of the Phelan US Centre at LSE. “This is really vintage Trump”, Trubowitz said, adding “last week was a bad week for Donald Trump politically in the United States and he needed to change the subject, and he needed to change it fast”.
