Two arrested as police probe attempted murder at Mugabe’s home

Police are probing a case of attempted murder following a shooting at a Hyde Park residence in Johannesburg.

Officers arrested Chatunga Bellarmine Mugabe, son of the late former Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe, along with a second suspect.

The suspects, aged 28 and 33, are expected to appear before the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court on attempted murder charges.

Shooting Prompts Police Response

Private security alerted police on Thursday morning after a shooting at the Hyde Park property.

Initial reports identified the victim as a security guard, but preliminary investigations confirmed the injured man is a 23-year-old gardener employed at the residence.

Early inquiries suggest an alleged labour dispute may have led to the shooting.

Police recovered a cartridge at the scene, although investigators have not yet confirmed the number of shots fired.

The shooting left the gardener critically injured. Emergency services transported him to hospital, where he remains under medical care.

Firearm Search Continues at Mugabe’s home

Police dismissed early claims that Mugabe had barricaded himself, confirming that he and his companion cooperated with officers.

Investigators, assisted by a dog unit, continued searching the property for the firearm as the investigation proceeds.
