Virat Kohli Matches Afridi’s Record After Champions Trophy

On Sunday during the intense Champions Trophy 2025 match between India and Pakistan, star batter Virat Kohli made history in the record books. Along with registering his sixth half-century in the elite fifty-over format against Pakistan, Kohli registered his 74th ODI fifty against Pakistan.

With this mark, he matched the record set by Indian legends Sunil Gavaskar and Navjot Singh Sidhu as well as former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi, both of whom had six half-centuries to credit India-Pakistan ODIs. Having scored 21 and 16 respectively, the Indian pair of Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid leads the rankings with the most fifties in India-Pakistan matches.

Legendary batsman Inzamam-ul-Haq and seasoned all-rounder Shoaib Malik both show conspicuously on the list from Pakistan, with 16 and 15 half-centuries respectively.

The former Indian skipper has other records as well; he just put another feather to his cap by ranking fastest among all the batters to amass 14,000 ODI run.

Reaching the milestone against arch-rivals and hosts Pakistan at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, the right-handed hitter represents India’s best. Joining compatriot Sachin Tendulkar and Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara, Kohli, who made his ODI debut in 2008, became only the third hitter in the history of the format to reach the mark.

Especially the 36-year-old reaches the historic mark in just 287 innings—63 less than Tendulkar—fastest.

Further emphasizing his amazing consistency in the format, Virat Kohli also owns the record for being the fastest hitter to reach 8,000, 9,000, 10,000, 11,000, 12,000, and 13,000 ODI runs.
