Voice of America staff put on leave as Trump freezes US-funded media outlets
More than 1,300 Voice of America employees were placed on leave on Saturday and funding for two US news services that broadcast to authoritarian regimes was terminated, a day after President Donald Trump ordered the gutting of the media outlets' parent company. Founded in 1942, VOA broadcasts in nearly 50 languages and reaches more than 326 million people weekly.
