WATCH: ‘Prominent’ gangsters gunned down at busy intersection
Two men were shot and killed at the corner of Retreat Road and Prince George Drive in Cape Town on Thursday, said police.
Two alleged gangsters were shot and killed at a busy intersection by unknown suspects in Steenberg, Cape Town on Thursday, 6 October.
ALLEGED GANGSTERS KILLED IN CAPE TOWN
South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Captain Frederick van Wyk said the shooting occurred at approximately 11:45 at the corner of Retreat Road and Prince George Drive in Steenberg.
The Steenberg police station is investigating a double murder and four attempted murder cases.
“Members attended a complaint of shooting at the mentioned address, and on arrival found the bodies of two males aged 33 and 37 in a black Mercedes-Benz,” said van Wyk.
The circumstances around the shooting are still under investigation and the suspects fled the scene and are yet to be arrested.
Van Wyk told The South African that crime scene experts are still on the scene combing the area for clues. He added that the motive for the shooting may be gang-related and the docket will be transferred to the Cape Town Anti-Gang Unit for further investigation.
According to the People’s Post, Grassy Park police station commander Colonel Dawood Laing said the victims of the shooting were “prominent gang members” who were returning home from a visit to Pollsmoor Prison.
