WEATHER: Gauteng set for rain relief after scorching start to February

Gauteng residents can breathe a sigh of relief as the South African Weather Service (SAWS) has forecast rainfall in the coming days.

After a scorching start to February, temperatures are set to drop slightly, with rain expected from Friday. Since the beginning of the week, the province has endured intense heat, with some areas reaching highs of 34°C.

According to the SA Weather Service, widespread showers and thunderstorms are likely across Gauteng heading into the weekend.

Johannesburg is expected to cool down on Friday, with temperatures ranging from a minimum of 16°C to a maximum of 26°C. There is a chance of afternoon showers.

In Pretoria, temperatures will range between 18°C and 28°C, with a 60% chance of afternoon thunderstorms.

Weather to change in Gauteng in the coming days

Rain is forecast to continue on Saturday across most parts of the province, with daytime temperatures settling in the mid-20s. Pretoria is expected to reach a high of 25°C, while Johannesburg has a 40% chance of rain.

By Sunday, temperatures will cool further, although the likelihood of rainfall is expected to decrease across Gauteng

Next week’s forecast indicates that the cool weather in Gauteng will be temporary. Scorching temperatures are expected for most of the week, with only a slight chance of rain.

This weekend, parts of Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and the North-West will experience rainfall, with temperatures dropping to the mid to high 20s.

Cool and sunny conditions are expected in the Western Cape in the coming days but no rain has been predicted by the SA Weather Service.
