The News on Monday said that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had made the players’ pay details public through their central contracts. The team has been under a lot of attention since they were knocked out early from the T20 World Cup 2024. Because of this, the board is thinking about changing the core contracts of the players.

Some players are likely to be demoted because of how poorly they’ve been playing, while others may have their central contracts cancelled completely. As per the current government contracts, players in Category A get Rs4.5 million every month. This includes Babar, Rizwan, and star fast bowler Shaheen Afridi.

Shadab Khan, Fakhar Azam, Haris Rauf, and Naseem Shah, on the other hand, get Rs3 million every month under Category B. Players in Category C get paid between Rs750,000 and Rs1.5 million a month. Players like Imad Wasim are in this group.

Also, players in Category D get the same pay as players in Category C. This includes players like Iftikhar Ahmed, Hasan Ali, Saim Ayub, and others. It’s important to note that these numbers only show the players’ monthly pay. They also get match fees, win bonuses in all three forms (Test, ODI, and T20I), and sponsorship benefits.

Sources told Geo News that the current three-year central contracts were given last year and started on July 1, 2023. They were made because players asked the then-PCB head Zaka Ashraf for more money, which was granted.

In the meantime, captain Babar Azam and wicket-keeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan could have their government contracts lowered from category A to category B. Still, the sources say that the national bowlers will continue to get the same amount of money.

Some people are also worried that players might not sign central contracts if they get demoted and instead choose to play without any restrictions.

At this point, the board is waiting for head coach Gary Kirsten’s report so that they can make decisions based on what it says. Also, top manager Wahab Riaz will give a report that will be looked over before decisions are made. What does PCB pay Pakistani players?
