When will Bafana Bafana play again?

After a pair of victories in the September international window Bafana Bafana are set for a long break from action.

The next international break will be for the FIFA World Cup which South Africa failed to reach.

At this stage South Africa’s Bafana Bafana are not set to feature in the friendly internationals that will precede the global showpiece that gets underway in Qatar in November.

If Bafana Bafana do not arrange some sort of friendly football during that period their next scheduled assignment is an AFCON qualifier against Liberia in March 2023.

South Africa host Liberia on 20 March 2023 in a match crucial to the teams’ hopes of reaching the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Bafana Bafana lost to Morocco in their only previous match in the qualifying programme.

Liberia also suffered defeat to the North Africans in a group that progresses in lopsided fashion due to the suspension of Zimbabwe over a breach of Fifa rules.

Both Bafana Bafana and Liberia will be out to bag their first points on the road to the Ivory Coast.

Hugo Broos displeased with mixed bag

Hugo Broos tested the depth of his team in the break just passed but wasn’t happy with many of the player’s efforts in the 1-0 win over Botswana.

“It’s clear that some players are maybe not good enough or not able to be on this level. The PSL is one thing, but international games are tougher, are quicker and are different.

“I chose two teams to see what the players can do. Today I am not happy with it, but again we won, and that is the most important thing.

“I’m very happy with the result. We won twice now, and this is good for confidence. But on the other side, I can’t be happy with the performance,” Broos told SABC Sport during his post-match interview.

“I said before the game that it is up to the guys to prove if they have the quality and mentality to be with Bafana. We shall evaluate the two games, and we will see what we will do.”
