Enock Mwepu will no longer feature for Premier League outfit Brighton & Hove Albion after being medically advised to hang up his boots.

Mwepu, who is 24-years-old, last featured for Brighton on 4 September when he helped his side hammer Leicester City 5-1.

The news was broken to the midfielder after several tests were conducted following his illness during the September international break.

At the time, he felt unwell while on a plane to link up with his Zambian teammates, and he would spend some time in hospital in Mali.

The doctors then advised Mwepu to not play football again as he would be putting his life at risk of cardiac arrest if he were to continue playing.

ZAMBIA STAR MWEPU FORCED TO RETIRE FROM FOOTBALL – STATEMENT

“These tests have concluded that his illness is due to a hereditary cardiac condition, which manifests later in life and was not previously evident on regular cardiac screening,” the club said in a statement.

“Sadly, this can be exacerbated by playing sport so Enock has been advised that the only option, for the sake of his own safety, is for him to stop playing football.”
