The 2022 Emmy Awards on 12 September will be hosted by actor and comedian Kenan Thompson. Here's how to watch the awards in South Africa.
The 74th annual Emmy Awards are set to take place on Monday 12 September at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles. HBO Max’s dark comedy series Succession leads with a whopping 25 nominations while Apple+’s Ted Lasso follows closely behind with 20 nominations. South Africans are in luck, as the the awards are set to be broadcast in Mzansi. Here’s everything you need to know…

THE NOMINEES
Succession, starring Jeremy Strong, Brian Cox and Sarah Snook, leads the pack of Emmy nominations with 25 nods. As per HBO, the series is described as a provocative and funny series about a highly dysfunctional dynasty.
The series has scored nominations in the Outstanding Drama Series, Lead Actor in a Drama Series (Brian Cox) and Supporting Actress in a Drama Series (Sarah Snook). The series 25 nominations is up from their 12 nominations in 2021.
Mzansi’s Trevor Noah picked up a record number of nominations for The Daily Show since taking over from Jon Stewart in September 2015. The Daily Show has been nominated for Outstanding Variety Series and Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series amongst others.

WHO WILL BE HOSTING THE EMMY AWARDS
Kenan Thompson, who is best known for appearing on Saturday Night Live and Kenan & Kel, will be hosting the 2022 Emmy Awards. Speaking on his new hosting gig at an Emmy event on 7 September, Thompson reflected on the infamous Oscars slap.
“I feel like a hug moment would have stopped all of that, you know what I’m saying?” said the 44-year-old as per Deadline.
“You know, I’m not going out there like hurting anybody’s feelings for the sake of other people laughing. We’re supposed to all be laughing together, even that person the joke is about.”

WHERE TO WATCH THE AWARDS IN SOUTH AFRICA
The Emmy Awards will take place on Monday 12 September at 20:00 Eastern Time (ET). The awards will be broadcast in Mzansi on Tuesday 13 September from 02:00 (DStv Channel 101).
