Alleged cable thief electrocuted in Alexandra
An alleged cable thief was electrocuted in Alexandra's London Road.
An alleged cables thief was electrocuted in Alexandra on Sunday afternoon.
City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) spokesperson Kagiso Phasha said the team was alerted to the incident under a bridge on London Road, over the Jukskei River.
Phasha said the man allegedly attempted to steal the cable during rainy conditions, which led to an electric shock.
Tempering with infrastructure could be deadly
“Tragically, the individual lost his life at the scene. The body will be handed over to the South African Police Service (SAPS) for further investigations,” Phasha said.
Phasha urged residents to remain vigilant, warning that tampering with electrical infrastructure can be fatal.
“Community members are encouraged to report any suspicious activity to the authorities rather than attempting to intervene themselves,” he added.
