AmaZulu coach Brandon Truter says the spectacle referee Victor Gomes created with his red-card frenzy on Sunday was 'plain to see'.

AmaZulu coach slams Victor Gomes: It’s always a spectacle

The MTN8 semi-final first leg tie between Chiefs and AmaZulu ended in an entertaining 1-1 draw, although it will also be remembered for the chaotic scenes at the end as referee Victor Gomes took exception with apparent antics from AmaZulu on the sidelines.

Ultimately, a couple of players who weren’t on the pitch were red-carded along with new goalkeeper coach Johan Abselon.

Earlier in the game Gomes first red carded defender Veluyeke Zulu, but it was his decision to brandish red cards to AmaZulu players and staff in the dug out that led to some chaotic scenes.

“What happened between me and Victor [Gomes], but Victor there is always a spectacle around, always,” AmaZulu coach Brandon Truter commented afterwards, as quoted by SABC Sport.

“He sent Keagan Buchanan off the pitch for broken sock and then while Keagan is off the pitch George Maluleka is down, so I’m shouting at George because if you can’t get the treatment you cant get off the pitch, that’s the rule – you get treatment then you get off and then I’m two men down. I’m shouting at George ‘get up’ the he books me, so I don’t know, so we not allowed to coach now, we no allowed to speak to players. If he wants to control everything, let him control everything then.

“Gabadinho [Mhango] didn’t deserve to get a send-off; the official told him to put on a shirt he delayed and then a red card, he didn’t deserve to be send off … I don’t want to speculate and I don’t wanna comment more on anything as well, but it was plain for everybody to see, thank you.”

After conceding the first goal, Amakhosi drew level through the boot of Keagan Dolly. After the ball was cut back into the box, the 29-year-old finished off a crucial goal with a sweetly-timed left-foot strike with his first touch.
