Pakistan’s Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan maintained their spots in the ICC’s new T20I rankings on Wednesday. Babar and Rizwan remained fourth and fifth with ratings of 755 and 746, respectively, with Australia’s Travis Head at the top and India’s Suryakumar Yadav as the second-highest batter. Indian hitters rose in the latest rankings after winning a five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe 4-1.

After the series, Indian skipper Shubman Gill rose 36 positions to 37th after scoring 170 runs in five innings. Then, after winning the T20 World Cup 2024, Rohit Sharma (42nd) and Virat Kohli (51st) retired from T20Is. After six wickets in the India T20I series, Zimbabwe pacer Blessing Muzarabani rose 11 places to 44th in the bowlers’ T20I rankings. However, Washington Sundar (up 36 spots to 46th) and Mukesh Kumar (up 21 spots to 73rd) from India also rose.

Adil Rashid of England was the top T20I bowler, followed by South Africa’s Anrich Nortje and Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga. England’s 114-run, innings victory helped some players rise in the Test rankings. “A host of England players were the biggest climbers on the updated Test rankings, following their easy win over the West Indies at Lord’s,” the ICC said. Ben Stokes’ team beat the Caribbean team by an innings and 114 runs in London, and four of their finest batsmen rose in the Test batters’ rankings.

After strong scores in the nation’s capital, top-order hitters Zak Crawley (up three ranks to 13th) and Ollie Pope (up three spots to 29th) both gain ground. Harry Brook moves up three places to seventh behind No.1 Kiwi Kane Williamson. “There is also good news for the two players who debuted at Lord’s, with wicket-keeper Jamie Smith joining the batting rankings at 75th after his half-century against the West Indies and impressive pacer Gus Atkinson coming in at 52nd after his 12-wicket haul on debut.”
