Benni McCarthy breaks silence amid Sundowns links

Bafana Bafana legend Benni McCarthy has opened up on his future plans amid reported interest from Mamelodi Sundowns.

McCarthy is currently unattached to any team following his departure from Premier League powerhouse Manchester United.

Since then, the former Porto striker has been linked with a number of teams, with Sundowns the recent one.

Of course, Sundowns have Manqoba Mngqithi as their head coach but reports suggest he might not last in that position.

This after local media reports that Sundowns officials flew to England to hold talks with McCarthy over a possible ‘coaching role’.

Now, McCarthy said he’s open to any head coaching opportunity to impart the experience gained at Man United.

Furthermore, Benni revealed that he wouldn’t mind coming back to Africa or going to the Major League Soccer in the US.

However, in Africa, McCarthy wants to coach a team that has all the potential to play in the FIFA Club World Cup.

McCarthy preciously coached Cape Town City and AmaZulu on the African continent.

BENNI MCCARTHY OPENS UP AMID SUNDOWNS REPORTS

“What’s next for me?” said McCarthy to CNN Sports as per iDiski Times.

“I think, of course, it’s clear the fact that after leaving United, I think that passion for wanting to be a head coach again, that brewed through, and I think that is the next step for me.

“So, whether it’s to go back to Africa, the African continent, to manage one of the big teams, the important teams, with the knowledge that I’ve gained, I think, yeah, that would be amazing, to manage a team on the continent and then trying to make them also one of the powerhouses in African football.

“But also, to try and achieve, as to reach a final when you play in the Club World Cup.

“That would be the aim, to do that, or even the MLS interests me a lot. Opportunities like that, I would welcome, because I think I’ve got what it takes to manage there, to make players better and to help teams achieve goals that they’ve maybe not achieved in last few years with their clubs.

“It’s just about getting the opportunity.”
