Daine Klate became the latest coaching casualty when he was relieved of his duties as Chippa United coach.

Klate only lasted seven games in his first senior head coaching gig at Chippa United, having come from their youth rankings.

Reports of Chippa sacking Klate

News that Chippa had sacked Klate started surfacing on social media on Thursday, catching the vast majority of the local football fraternity by surprised in the process. The former SuperSport United and Orlando Pirates winger fell to a late 1-0 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Wednesday.

That seemingly was the final straw for Chippa Mpengesi, the club chairman, who then saw it fit to fire Klate a day after the game. After the news broke out, new Manchester United forwards coach Benni McCarthy came out in support of his former Pirates teammate, by commenting on the Instagram account of a local football publication.

“What a big shame on Daine Klate, I know football is a result driven sport but when you don’t give a coach time to change the teams fortune, what chance is there for anyone. You should be proud of what you done so early in your coaching career @klatey7 Biggest things await you my broertjie ❤❤❤McCarthy wrote.

Of course McCarthy would know all about being relieved of your duties under perplexing timing. Bafana Bafana’s all time top goal scorer left AmaZulu under similar grounds towards the backend of the last season. Having taken a relegation threatened AmaZulu to a CAF Champions League spot, but as soon as the going got tough, he was fired and left without a job for the longest of time.

Both Kaizer Chefs and his former team Pirates were rumoured to be interested in his services but in the end, no offer from any of the Soweto giants understood to have come his way. He now struts his stuff at Old Trafford and will be hoping Klate can reach similar heights in his career
