Breaking Bread: Prayer and confession

It is written, Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. What a profound truth! A realization that eases the grip of life on man – surrendering to God in all things. Partake in this feast as we consume food for the soul, nourishing the spirit in Breaking Bread. It is Monday, 5th September 2022.

UNDERSTANDING CONFESSION

How should we understand the word “confession’’ within the context of being saved by God? We must understand it as part of the process of faith that saves us. Faith that Jesus Christ died for us, was buried and rose up on the third day.

Confession of sins does not necessarily mean that we should walk down the passage of the Church and stand in front to confess to our sins. Confession that leads to salvation by God, does not mean to stand up before a crowd of people and confess that Jesus is our Lord. No, confession leads to salvation only if it is part of our faith.

Proverbs 28:13: “Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy.”  To confess in this verse means to agree with God that we sinned before God by transgressing His holy law. We agree on punishment for our sins. Therefore we stand before God and confess our sins to be saved by Him.

We must believe with our hearts and confess with our mouths to receive the salvation of God. It is therefore very clear that confession only leads to salvation if it forms part of our faith.

PRAYER

Lord, we thank You for dying on the Cross so that we can receive full salvation. Thank You Lord for giving us the opportunity to confess our sins before You and to be saved. We pray this in Your holy name. Amen.

Ons moet  belydenis van sonde verstaan as deel van geloof wat red. Kom ons behandel die volgende skrifgedeeltes om meer duidelikheid te kry oor die konsep belydenis: 

Matthew 10: 32

“Elkeen dan wat My sal bely voor die mense, Hom sal ek ook bely voor My Vader wat in die hemele is.” Hier onderskei Jesus tussen Jode wat glo en Jode wat nie glo nie. Die wat glo is die wat woordeliks sal bely dat Jesus die Messias is. Hier loop belydenis uit op redding maar dit is dan belangrik dat ons moet glo.

Romans 10:9-11

Hierdie skrifgedeelte verbind ook belydenis met redding. Belydenis word hier beskryf as iets wat nie apart staan van geloof nie. Belydenis moet ook nie vir ons n voorvereiste van redding word nie, want dit sou beteken dat ons redding deur ons werke kry. Paulus bedoel hier belydenis wat red. Slegs hierdie belydenis is dieselfde as om te glo. In vers 9 skryf Paulus: “As jy met jou mond die Here Jesus bely en met jou hart glo dat God Hom uit die dode opgewek het, sal jy gered word.”

Wanneer ons bely, verklaar ons met trots dat God ons vergewe het en dat Hy ons vrygemaak het van sonde en dat Hy ons Sy regverdiging vrylik gee. Daarom is dit belangrik dat ons moet besef dat verlossing lei tot belydenis van sonde en nie anders om nie.

Ons loof en prys U Here vir U goedheid en guns teenoor ons. Dankie dat ons die geleentheid deur U genade het om ons sondes te kan bely en daardeur met geloof U verlossing kan ontvang. Amen.
