BREAKING: Court rules Adv Teffo can no longer practice law

Former defence lawyer for accused 1 – 4 in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial, Advocate Malesela Teffo has been struck off the roll of legal practitioners.

The North Gauteng High Court made the ruling on Friday, 16 September 2022.

ADV TEFFO STRUCK OFF THE ROLL

Adv Teffo was accused of misconduct and misappropriation of funds by a number of clients who complained that despite paying he never rendered services. The clients had complained to the Legal Practice Council before he even represented accused 1 – 4 in the Meyiwa murder trial. In fact, his conduct at the soccer star’s murder trial was not considered in this matter.

Giving the ruling, Justice Bokako said Adv Teffo must surrender and deliver his certificate of enrolment as a legal practitioner to the registrar and all his other legal documents. A curator has also been appointed to administer and control his bank accounts used while he was practicing as an advocate.

Justice Bokako also found that Teffo who was not present in court when the ruling was made is not fit to be practicing, is dishonest and does not behave in a manner that is expected of a legal practitioner.

On Thursday, 15 September there was drama at the North Gauteng High Court on Thursday morning before proceedings in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial could even start as Teffo bargeded in robed and demanded to see Presiding Judge, Tshifhiwa Maumela.
