Dricus du Plessis defeated Sean Strickland to retain his UFC middleweight on Sunday in Australia.

The 31-year-old fighter won by a unanimous decision after another dominant display over the former American champion.

The middleweight title was on the line in the main event of UFC 312 as Strickland looked to reclaim his title after he was dethroned by the Pretoria-born fighter last year. With another victory over Strickland, Du Plessis has consolidated his reign in the sport.

Despite being booed by the crowd, the Du Plessis forged on to win.

After the fight, many UFC fans praised the South African UFC champion but criticised Strickland for his performance.
