The big question before PSL captain Babar Azam in the Tests now is whether he can bring his touch back to his true glory in the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh, with the Steel City captain expressing optimism for the Bangladesh Test team. The series is scheduled to kick off on Friday and all the eyes are on Babar Azam, following a stellar Pakistan Super League season. With his recent form in PSL 11, Babar Azam’s ability to take PSL form into Tests becomes even more significant. Babar hit a whopping 588 runs off 11 innings with an impressive strike rate of more than 145.
Two centuries and three half centuries in the season; it proved to be one of his most productive T20 seasons. But one of his finest moments was in the Qualifier with Islamabad United when Babar delivered a blistering century to take the side into the finals, which they went on to win. His style, timing and confidence were highly commended and the batter himself remarked that he is feeling closer to his best form. But Test cricket is a whole new ball game, though.
PSL has proven to be a sign of his confidence in the limited-overs format, but the longer format requires patience, adaptability and the ability to concentrate for extended periods. It is where Pakistan will look to Babar to make a difference in Test cricket. Shan Masood’s remarks underscore the significance of Babar in the bowling order.
His batting ability is one of the most technically sound and experienced of Pakistan and thus often controls the flow of the game. Pakistan will be seeking a certain level of stability in the top order against Bangladesh in the subcontinent.
