Cape Town areas to face 14-hour water supply disruption

Parts of Cape Town will experience a 14-hour water supply disruption on Tuesday, 10 September, due to planned maintenance.

The City of Cape Town also warned that for a short period after the supply has been restored, the water may be discoloured or look milky. This is because of trapped air in the pipes.

14-HOUR WATER SUPPLY DISRUPTION IN THE CITY OF CAPE TOWN

The City of Cape Town said maintenance work, including pipe and valve installations, repairs, and replacementswill result in water supply disruption to these areas:

Plumstead—The Water and Sanitation Directorate will shut off the 535mm diameter water main in Burnham Road, Plumstead, from 9:00 to 18:00 on Saturday, 7 September, to repair a leak.

As a result, the area bounded by Main Road, Old Kendal Road, Boundary Road, Burnham Road, St Joans Road, and Timour Hall Road will not be without water or receive water at lower pressure during the repairs. Affected consumers are kindly requested to store enough water in clean, sealed containers in advance.

Golden Acres, Somerset West—The Water and Sanitation Directorate will test shut off the water supply between Juliana Street and Lourensford Road from 9:00 to 12:00 on Tuesday, 10 September.

The City of Cape Town said this will enable the maintenance team to safely assess the existing water supply infrastructure in the area in preparation for repairs. Affected consumers are kindly requested to store enough water in clean, sealed containers in advance.

Montclair, Somerset West—The Water and Sanitation Directorate will test shut off the water supply between Irene Road, Rue New Orleans Street, and Hoëveld Road from 9:00 to 12:00 on Tuesday, 10 September.

This will enable the maintenance team to safely assess the existing water supply infrastructure in the area in preparation for repairs to be done. Affected consumers are kindly requested to store enough water in clean, sealed containers in advance.

Constantia and Tokai, including Steenberg Golf Estate – The Water and Sanitation Directorate will shut off the 535mm diameter water main opposite the Greenbelt in Lower Constantia from 9:00 until 23:00 on Tuesday, 10 September. This will enable the maintenance team to safely repair a severe leak in the pipeline. Affected residents in this area are also advised to store water in clean, sealed containers in advance.
