Cape Town cuts MyCiti routes over ‘significant’ diesel increases

Some MyCiti bus routes will be reduced or suspended from 1 October 2022, the Cape Town bus service announced on Monday. The affected routes operate in the City Bowl and West Beach area of Table View.

MYCITI CUTS AND SUSPENDS ROUTES

MyCiti said the changes to its bus service are an “urgent response” to the growing cost of running the service due to significant increases in the price of diesel. To make matters worse for commuters, there will be a mandatory fare increase on 1 November.

From 1 October, the 114 and 115 routes will be suspended. However, there will be some alternatives for passengers.

“Passengers can still connect between Sea Point and the inner city via route 104 along Beach Road from Adderley station, routes 108, 109 and 118 along Main Road from Adderley station, and route 105 along High-Level Road from the Civic Centre station,” offered MyCiti.

Some of the following routes will operate on a “Saturday schedule” during the week from Monday to Sunday, which essentially means buses will be less frequent.

Routes 101 and 111 will run every hour and they will run half an hour apart, which ensures there will be a bus every 30 minutes across the routes.

Other affected routes include:

  • Routes 103, 213 and 223 will run every 35 minutes
  • Route 104 will operate every 40 minutes
  • Route 113 will run on an hourly basis
