Just weeks after hosting its annual Pride Festival, the City of Cape Town has bagged another tourism award, this time as “Best LGBTQ+ City Destination.”
CAPE TOWN BAGS TOP LGBTQ AWARD
This week, Cape Town Tourism revealed it had received a major accolade – the “Best LGBTQ+ City Destination” at the 2026 SPARTACUS Travel Awards in Berlin.
The awards recognise destinations worldwide that promote equality, diversity, and inclusive travel experiences.
The award comes a week after the city hosted its Mardi Gras parade at its Pride Festival.

“Cape Town is a city where people can genuinely be themselves. From our vibrant queer community and inclusive spaces to the excitement of our neighbourhoods, beaches, and nightlife, this award honours the spirit of openness that locals and visitors experience here every day”, the tourism board said of the award.

WORLD PRIDE COMING IN 2028
For the first time, World Pride will be hosted on African soil, in Cape Town in 2028
The event, organised by InterPride, is an international LGBTQ celebration which includes music, art, film, fashion, and activism.
It will take place between 1 and 14 October 2028 across the city.
