Carte Blanche: Concrete promises, empty ground – WATCH

The 2 November episode of Carte Blanche reports on a struggling housing system, recalling its visit in May last year to Roodepan near Kimberley, where 65-year-old Nellie Frans had spent her life waiting for a proper home.

During that visit, President Cyril Ramaphosa had announced a R1-billion housing project beside her shack, and Northern Cape Premier Zamani Saul had promised that construction would begin by the end of April 2024.

Now, eighteen months later, with the Human Rights Commission investigating the provincial leadership, the programme revisited the area to question whether the Premier had fulfilled his promise.

Carte Blanche is a South African investigative journalism television series that airs on M-Net every Sunday at 19:00.

Its first episode aired on 21 August 1988 and over the last 34-plus years has earned credibility among South African viewers for its investigation into corruption, consumer issues, and current events.
