One of SA’s most vile murders? Calvinia woman found ‘sliced open’
The details reaching us from Calvinia in the Northern Cape are far more depraved than most murder cases - and two men have been arrested.
You have to go a long way to find a killing more stomach-churning than this. It has been confirmed that a 31-year-old woman was found dead in Calvinia on Monday – with the crime scene even managing to shock some of the Northern Cape’s most hardened cops.

Calvinia murder ‘sickens’ local authorities
Two men, aged 21 and 41 respectively, are now in police custody. They were arrested shortly after the body was discovered, and it is expected they will be processed by the courts soon. However, SAPS now has the unenviable task of finding out what sparked such a depraved act.
Police are yet to confirm if there is anything ‘satanic’ linked to the murder, but the details are absolutely abhorrent.
- The victim was found ‘naked and ravaged’ on the outskirts of Calvinia yesterday.
- Both her skull AND body had been ‘sliced open’, leaving her vital organs exposed.
- She had been severely beaten, and the killers even tried to bury her body underneath heavy rocks.
- It’s understood she was tortured in her final moments, and one leading politician has described the violence as ‘inhumane’.
- The DA’s Constituency Head in Calvinia shared the harrowing news on her social media pages, along with a photo of the crime scene.
Northern Cape MP lashes out at ‘ineffective’ police leadership
In her role as the MP for Hantam-Karoo Hoogland, Gizella Opperman spoke on behalf of a heart-broken community. She expressed relief that the suspects had been arrested, but ultimately, she couldn’t resist settling a political score – and called for the Police Minister to quit.
“The DA is pleased that two suspects, aged 41-year and a 21-years old, have been arrested. No amount of justice, however, will undo the torture that the victim must have endured, or even bring her back. Our party reiterates its demand for Bheki Cele to be fired.” | Gizella Opperman
