Charlize Theron returns in ‘The Old Guard 2’

Charlize Theron is back—and she’s bringing even more firepower this time.

Netflix has finally confirmed the global premiere of The Old Guard 2 for 2 July 2025.

Charlize Theron reprises her role as Andy, the battle-hardened immortal who’s led her team through centuries of chaos.

KiKi Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Veronica Ngô, and Chiwetel Ejiofor also return to the fold, according to the Tribune.

This time two heavyweights join the cast, Henry Golding and Uma Thurman.

‘THE OLD GUARD 2’ PRODUCTION

Production had wrapped up in 2022, but fans were left hanging.

According to Theron, “Post-production got shut down by Netflix, but the sequel will come out soon.”

Internal shake-ups at Netflix and industry strikes had put the film in limbo, but Theron never lost faith. “It was about making sure we delivered something exceptional,” she explained.

This sequel promises even more explosive action, with director Victoria Mahoney, taking over from Gina Prince-Bythewood. He teased that the team’s mission is bigger than ever.

“We strived daily on The Old Guard 2 to wonderfully up the ante,” Mahoney revealed. “You’ll see Charlize hanging off a live helicopter—yes, it’s that wild!”

THE MOVIE PLOT

The story picks up with Andy wrestling with her fading immortality. Quynh, played by Veronica Ngô, is back and also out for revenge.

Booker remains in exile, and the team’s fate might rest in the hands of Tuah, a mysterious new ally played by Henry Golding.

The stakes are nothing less than the future of humanity.

The Old Guard films are based on the acclaimed comics by Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernández.

The first movie was a pandemic-era hit, which had audiences glued to their screens.

ACTION AND EMOTION

The blend of action, emotion, and a dash of existential dread struck a chord, with many who saw the film.

As Andy once said, “We don’t get a say on how it ends, we never have. But we can control how we live”.

With its diverse cast and globe-trotting action, The Old Guard 2 promises to deliver the kind of spectacle movie viewers love.

As director Mahoney puts it, “We wanted to take audiences to places they’ve never seen before”.
