Condolences continue to pour in for Ukhozi FM current affairs show host, author and poet Bongani Mavuso. 

Mavuso, who hosted Saturday and Sunday show Ezangempelasonto passed away on Tuesday, 27 September 2022 following a short illness. 

CONDOLENCES POUR IN FOR BONGANI MAVUSO

Family spokesperson, Majuba Mavuso said the multitalented 45-year-old was rushed to a hospital in Umhlanga, Durban on Monday 26 September after he complained about losing strength. 

Mavuso who was born in Dumbe, northern KwaZulu-Natal is a Literary Journalism Award recipient and most recently, his poem Intsika Yethongo walked away with a 2nd runner-up prize at the Avbob Poetry Competition.

On behalf of the Provincial Government and the people of the province KwaZulu-Natal Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube has offered condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of highly respected and loved SABC Ukhozi FM news host and current affairs producer, Bongani Mavuso. 

Dube-Ncube said it is with great sadness and sorrow to have learnt of the untimely passing of one of the brilliant journalists, senior producer, author and poet Bongani Mavuso who was regarded as one of the brightest lights of our time. 

Dube-Ncube also said even though though they were aware of episodes of ill health that he was going through, however, they nursed the hope that he was going to fully recover from his illness. 

“He was proud of his culture and heritage and left a legacy that will endure for many generations to come. His was a voice that we all woke up to and also listened to as we journeyed back from various destinations as he was spearheading national discourse on many issues affecting millions of citizens.”

Donga lwaMavuso as he was affectionately known followed in the footsteps of other talented radio personalities who also became renowned authors like Muzi Eric Ngcobo, Morris Vusumuzi Bhengu and VVO Mkhize amongst others.

Political parties in the province including the African National Congress (ANC) and Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) have also sent their condolences to those affected by Mavuso’s death. 

“What saddens us most is that his departure is a depletion of a solid and clear pool of  journalists available to the nation.

“He carved for himself a niche in the hearts and minds of millions of people throughout the country for his presenting skills in the most current affairs programme on Ukhozi FM. He was admired by his fellow colleagues and fans for his humility.”

In an interview with Ukhozi FM, family spokesperson, Majuba Mavuso said they are yet to meet and discuss the funeral arrangements.
