CONFIRMED: AmaZulu poised to announce new coach

AmaZulu are said to have made quick progress in their search for a replacement for former coach Brandon Truter.

CONFIRMED: AmaZulu poised to announce new coach

On Thursday it was confirmed that Truter was the latest PSL coach heading for the exit door after parting ways with AmaZulu, and the club will understandably now be on the hunt for a replacement.

“Although I won’t tell you if he is local or not, our next coach will be announced in a couple of days,” AmaZulu president Sandile Zungu has revealed.

Ernst Middendorp was the latest experienced coach to be linked with AmaZulu as they look to find a replacement for Truter, but he has emphatically ruled himself out of contention.

Middendorp – who has coached extensively in South Africa – was also recently linked with the Swallows coaching job following the sacking of Dylan Kerr, and yet he ruled out these reports due to a role he has taken up with a FIFA project in Switzerland.

“I will not join Swallows,” Middendorp told Soccer Laduma. “With the beginning of October 2022, I will be involved in a project at FIFA. During a workshop in Zurich, I will be introduced to more details about my specific tasks in the future.”

AmaZulu will be desperate to quickly find a suitable replacement for Truter

According to KickOff.com, AmaZulu and Swallows could be the clubs also looking to explore the availability of experienced Belgian coach Luc Eymael. However, the manager who has coached around the world is believed to have only just started a new role in the Libyan first division.

The 63-year-old is no stranger to South Africa, having coached at Polokwane City, Free State Stars and Black Leopards.

“Luc Eymael is currently sitting with two offers from South Africa. It’s still too early to say much,” a source told KickOff.

Meanwhile, Truter’s agent, Basia Michaels of QT Sports, has told SABC Sport that the coach handed in his resignation due to what is said to be a family issue that took priority.

“We had a meeting and the coach has opted to resign. He is resigning because he has personal issues and they are quite clearly affecting his day-to-day job,” Michaels told SABC Sport when asked to elaborate.

“Yes, the results haven’t fallen our way, hence the coach has also decided it’s best to step aside. He thought he could continue to balance work and personal matters, but you can see it is affecting his job,” she added.

However, AmaZulu then released the following statement, and pointed to a “difficult” start to the season that has seen just three victories achieved:

AmaZulu Football Club would like to announce that it has parted ways with head coach Brandon Truter. The 52-year-old was in charge of the team for just over five months.

He has impressed since taking over the reins following the departure of Benni McCarthy in March. However, the current season has proved difficult, and the team has recorded just three DStv Premiership wins.

Truter’s record is as follows: 19 games, seven wins, seven draws, and five losses. We thank him for his cooperation and hard work for the club and wish him luck in his future career.
