E-hailing driver nabbed for injuring traffic warden in hit-and-run

An e-hailing driver allegedly hit a City of Cape Town traffic official and made a run for it on Monday, 12 September. He was later apprehended.

E-HAILING DRIVER ARRESTED IN CAPE TOWN

City of Cape Town Law Enforcement spokesperson, Eckardt Winks, said an urgent radio message was put out after a traffic warden was struck by a vehicle in an alleged hit-and-run near Granger Bay Boulevard in Greenpoint on Monday.

Another traffic officer at the scene caught a glimpse of the offending vehicle’s registration number, which was circulated to all units along with a description.

The car was stopped in Claremont a short while later and the driver was detained. It was discovered that the suspect was a contracted e-hailing driver.

The suspect was taken to the Sea Point police station where he was arrested on charges of Assault with the intent to cause Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH).

“The injured Traffic Warden has since been discharged from hospital, lucky to have escaped with only minor injuries,” said Winks.
