Faheem Ashraf will be leading the seven-member Pakistan squad during the Hong Kong World Sixes that starts on October 28. It was announced by the Pakistan Cricket Board here on Thursday.
This time around, the eight-team tournament occupies centre-stage after a seven-year-hiatus from November 1 to 3 in Hong Kong at the Kowloon Cricket Club.
Pakistan have captured the tournament four times since its inception in 1993 and remained runner-up for five times, which includes a qualifying in the final of the last edition held in 2017.
Title defenders South Africa and England top the charts with five titles each and are closely followed by Sri Lanka, Australia, India, all winners of one title, with the West Indies still in search of their first one.
This tournament has been graced by big names such as Shahid Afridi, Imran Nazir, MS Dhoni, Wasim Akram, Umar Akmal, Shoaib Malik, Glenn Maxwell, Sanath Jayasuriya, among others. We are delighted to bring back this marquee event which showcases our city as a truly world city and one of the sporting capitals of East Asia to the rest of the world and our cricket credentials.
The strategic plan is to develop the Hong Kong Sixes into a global series, culminating every year with the grand finale at home,” said Chairperson of Cricket Hong Kong, China Burji Shroff. The cricket-governing body said former Test wicketkeeper-batter Saleem Yousuf will accompany the side as manager.
