The South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Free State has launched an investigation into the murder of a 50-year-old man outside his home.

According to SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thabo Covane, the man was an employee of CENTLEC Intervention Section in Mangaung.

“According to reports, the victim arrived at his home in Cuban Street, Pine Haven and parked the vehicle at about 21:30. The family members then heard gunshots from outside and rushed out to see what was happening. They then found him lying on the ground. The police and paramedics were summoned to the scene and the victim, with several gunshot wounds, was declared dead,” Covane added.

NO ARRESTS YET IN FREE STATE MAN’S MURDER

For now, no arrests have been made yet in the man’s murder, Free State authorities have added.

They have since opened a case of murder and have encouraged members of the public with information relevant to the case to come forward.

“A case of murder was opened at Bloemspruit Police Station. Any member of the public who might have information that can help the police in the investigation of the case or lead to the arrest of the suspects is requested to contact Constable Sechaba Tsholo at 082 8547 532. Alternatively, information can be submitted on MySAPS App or call the SAPS Crime Stop number 08600 10111. Information can be submitted anonymously and the will be treated with confidentiality,” Covane further said.
