FULL STATEMENT: Pitso Mosimane’s Saudi job a ‘win-win’ project
Pitso Mosimane has been described as a 'turnaround strategist' as he gets set to join second-tier outfit Al Ahli Saudi.
On Sunday it was formally announced that Pitso Mosimane would be joining Al-Ahli Saudi FC on what is believed to be a two-year deal, which is his first full-time coaching gig since leaving Al Ahly.
Recently, Pitso Mosimane clearly indicated that he had no intention to rush into another job after leaving Al Ahly, but it increasingly appeared that he was starting to feel ready to scratch the “itch” of getting back into a frontline coaching gig.

After fending off numerous other offers that were presented to him, Mosimane’s agency MT Sports has provided a lengthy statement explaining why this was seen as the best project.
“Coach Pitso Mosimane has navigated his career in a manner that not only changes the trajectory of a club over time but changes the game in a manner that positively affects the club and players,” MT Sports said on Sunday.
“The history and legacy of the clubs and teams that coach Pitso and his technical team have been able to work with over many years, speaks volumes to how they approach each chapter of their coaching journey…
“With coach Pitso Mosimane’s experience and track record of being the football coach turnaround strategist, the Caf Pro Licence graduate and one of the most successful coaches in Africa, he is more than suitable for this role. The opportunity to lead such a prestigious club in Saudi Arabia presents itself as the perfect project to yield a win-win result for both parties.”

High profile Al Ahly move
Mosimane enjoyed a famed coaching career with Mamelodi Sundowns, and was involved as national caretaker coach for seven games in 2007.
He then went on to join Al Ahly in a high-profile move, and won several titles in Egypt before prematurely opting out of his new contract.

The popular coach in fact oversaw 105 fixtures at Al Ahly, winning 68 matches, drawing 27 and only suffering 10 defeats, and he had made it clear that he would only take up a new job if he deemed it to be the correct ‘project’.
That ‘project will now come in the form of working with Al Ahli Jeddah, who were shockingly relegated from the Saudi Pro League for the first time in the club’s history after finishing 15th with just 32 points.
The club has also endured a challenging start to the Yelo League campaign this season as they lie seventh in the standings, having accumulated just eight points after five games.
