Currently under renovation, Gaddafi Stadium is in the final stages of construction work to finally meet the requirements of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. According to the PCB Director of Infrastructure, Qazi Jawad Ahmed, renovations are on schedule.
Finishing work is in process on the first floor of the office building, while further development of the pavilion floors is being carried out simultaneously. Ahmed explained that the Far End Building-which was found to be structurally sound-wasn’t demolished but is being subjected to heavy refurbishment in order to bring its appearance consistent with the rest of the stadium.
This area is expected to be renovated within two weeks. The works of the floodlights are on schedule, with one screen stand already installed and another almost finished. Furthermore, the upgrade of the seating is also in full swing. The white and green chairs, imported to reflect the colours of the national flag of Pakistan, will be installed without any delay once they arrive.
It is pertinent to mention here that the International Cricket Council, on December 24, 2024, announced the much-awaited schedule of the men’s Champions Trophy 2025, as it is scheduled to be hosted by Pakistan. The event is an eight-team, three-venue, 15-match tournament scheduled to take place between February 19 and March 9 in Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Dubai.
The teams are divided into two groups, with eight teams taking part. Group A: Pakistan, India, New Zealand, Bangladesh; Group B: Afghanistan, South Africa, England, Australia.
The tournament proper gets underway with hosts Pakistan taking on New Zealand in the curtain-raiser on February 19 in Karachi, while the much-anticipated contest between arch-rivals Pakistan and India is slated for February 23 in Dubai.
Of the 34 matches at stake, Pakistan will host 10 of them in their home venues, with the remaining four – including all three group-stage matches of India and the first semi-final – to be conducted in Dubai. The final of the tournament will be held in Lahore; this will, however, also be in Dubai if India qualifies for the final.
