‘Get a job’: Ne-Yo slams wife’s request for alimony, custody

American singer Shaffer Chimere Smith, popularly known as Ne-Yo, objected to his estranged wife Crystal Smith’s request for alimony during a court appearance on Friday 9 September.

NE-YO OBJECTS TO WIFE’S REQUEST FOR ALIMONY

Singer Ne-Yo’s estranged wife Crystal Smith filed for divorce last month. According to Hot New Hip Hop, she requested temporary and permanent alimony. Crystal also reportedly requested the division of property and primary custody of their three children: Shaffer, Roman and Isabella.

However, Ne-Yo reportedly objected to his estranged wife’s request suggesting she “get a job”. The singer also wants to keep the Georgia mansion they shared.

He claimed he has “been solely responsible for the mortgage and maintenance of this property since the date of purchase”. The So Sick hitmaker also wants joint legal and physical custody of their three children.

The singer said that he “asserts that he is financially, physically, and emotionally capable of serving as a joint physical custodian of the parties’ three minor children alongside Crystal,” according to court documents seen by Hot New Hip Hop.

CRYSTAL ACCUSED SINGER OF CHEATING ON HER

This comes after Crystal took to social media with bombshell allegations against the singer in July this year. She claimed that he cheated on her with “numerous” women who sell their bodies to him “unprotected”.

“Eight years of lies and deception, eight  years of unknowingly sharing my life and husband with numerous women (sic) who sell their bodies to him unprotected. Every last one of them. To say I’m heartbroken and disgusted is an understatement,” she wrote in a since-deleted post.

She went on to claim that he asked her to stay.

“To ask me and stay and accept it is absolutely insane. The mentality of a narcissist. I will no longer lie to the public or pretend that this is something it isn’t,” she continued.

Crystal also acknowledged that she gained three beautiful children out of her marriage, but nothing else.

“I gained three beautiful children out of this but nothing else but wasted years and heartache. If someone can’t love you the way you deserve then it’s up to you to love yourself. With no hate in my heart, I wish him nothing but the best,” she added.

Ne-Yo responded asking the public to please respect him and for privacy.
