Good news for Table Mountain National Park visitors this December

South African National Parks (SANParks) has stepped up safety and security measures at Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) by deploying one of its helicopters ahead of the festive season rush.

The helicopter, part of SANParks’ national fleet, will support aerial surveillance and rapid-response operations as visitor numbers increase over the peak holiday period.

Its presence is intended to act as a visible deterrent to criminal activity while allowing rangers to respond more quickly to emergencies and incidents within the park.

Aerial patrols to boost security at Table Mountain National Park

SANParks says the aerial patrols work closely with ground teams, including its specialised Sea, Air and Mountain (SEAM) operators.

This coordinated approach has been used successfully during previous high-traffic periods such as Christmas, New Year and Easter, helping to improve visitor safety, prevent environmental crimes and detect illegal activity, including fires, at an early stage.

Visitors are encouraged to enjoy the park responsibly, plan activities carefully and remain alert.

SANParks also reminded hikers and park users that Table Mountain National Park is open from sunrise to sunset, and advises people to travel in groups, carry appropriate equipment and keep an eye on changing weather conditions during their visit.
