ICYMI- Three killed, three injured in yet ANOTHER TAVERN shooting

Three people were shot and killed, while three others were injured in a shooting at yet ANOTHER TAVERN in the Eastern Cape on Thursday evening.

THREE MEN WERE SHOT AND KILLED ON THURSDAY EVENING

According to police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu, the shooting happened at a tavern in Mqekezweni Administrative area in the Polela locality in Bityi at around 19:00 on Thursday.

“It is alleged that at about 19:00, people were drinking on the veranda of the tavern when three unknown men arrived.

“The first deceased, aged 26-year-old who was on the veranda, was approached and was shot multiple times. The rest of the patrons were ordered to lie on the floor.”

THREE UNKNOWN ARMED MEN ENTERED AND OPENED FIRE

She said the three armed men then went inside and shot and killed two other men, aged 31 and 41 years.

“Three other people, aged between 23-29 years old, also sustained gunshot wounds and were taken to hospital for treatment.”

According to Naidu, a 72-hour activation plan was implemented to arrest the three responsible for the shooting.

The motive for the killing is not yet known.

THE MOTIVE FOR THE KILLINGS IS NOT YET KNOWN

SAPS Bityi detectives are investigating three cases of murder and three of attempted murder.

Police are calling on the communities to work with the police in swiftly identifying and apprehending the suspects.
