‘If we play Pirates, they’ll give us SIX’ – Hunt
Stellenbosch FC head coach Gavin Hunt feels his team is not ready to face Orlando Pirates despite winning 3-1 against Sekhukhune United.
Stellenbosch FC head coach Gavin Hunt has admitted that his side could concede six goals against Orlando Pirates if they don’t improve.
Following their 3-1 win against Sekhukhune United at home, Hunt felt his side were still not good enough to compete with top teams in the league.
“I think you have to worry about yourself a little bit. I really don’t think we good enough yet, I don’t think we at that stage yet. I need to get my hands dirty here a little bit,” he told the media.
Hunt felt his side could be exposed by Pirates if they produce a similar performance. Stellies host the Buccaneers in the coming weeks at home in a game which could potentially decide the title race.
“If we play like that against Pirates, they will give us six, they’ve got a lot of quality to going forward. I don’t think we will have chances like that against them so, I think if we get a night like this, I don’t think they will fancy it [raining].”
Will Hunt do Pirates a favour?
Stellenbosch travel to Pretoria to play Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday in a Betway Premiership clash. Hunt hopes his team can deliver a performance that will be remembered.
“It was difficult to play here tonight [Friday], it was very bad at one stage. It’s very difficult to play against that side [Sundowns] because of what they have, we will go there [midweek], we will put up some fight that’s for sure.
“They could have one of those night you’ll never know in football where they hit a crossbar, I just don’t know if we there yet, but we will get there I know that.
“We will get this team back to where it was. We just need to box a little bit clever as I said we just want to get ourselves out of the situation.”
With Pirates and Sundowns to play, Hunt could have a final say in where the title goes this season.
