Mohammad Rizwan, Pakistan’s captain, said the team was not scared by South Africa’s home record and was looking forward to a victorious series. Rizwan told the reporters at Kingsmead Cricket Stadium in Durban that away series may be challenging due to unfamiliar pitches and weather.
The Men in Green will begin their South Africa trip today with a three-match T20I series followed by an ODI series of the same length. Two Tests, the last on January 7, will conclude the tour.
Pakistan hopes to repeat their 2021 success by sweeping the series 3-1, The News reported on Tuesday. After two T20Is at the Wanderers in Johannesburg ended in a 1-1 draw, the tourists won the next two at Centurion to clinch the series 3-1.
Pakistan has never liked South Africa, but Fakhar Zaman’s extraordinary performance helped them win the ODI series 2-1. He was ruled unfit for the international series, therefore his services would be missed.
Pakistan’s T20 squad returns important players, including white-ball captain Mohammad Rizwan, rested during the Zimbabwe T20I series. Babar, Naseem Shah, and Shaheen Shah Afridi return, giving depth and experience.
Rizwan stated: “As professional players, we must acclimatise [with conditions] quickly and perform well” regarding the series.
According to the wicket-keeper batter, the youthful players have shown their mettle in Australia and Zimbabwe and strengthened the Men’s team’s bench.
The captain highlighted that the team had done well in the recent white-ball series in Australia and Zimbabwe, adding that the players had shown their talent and helped form strong team combinations.
“The young players have gelled well with the senior cricketers and are learning from the experience of the senior teammates,” he said.
He stated the team was selected based on South African circumstances and that the selectors would pick a different group for the Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan and the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 in India.
Rizwan stated the left-handed hitter was a game-changer and the country knew about his ability when asked about Fakhar’s non-selection.
He added that Fakhar’s omission from the South Africa tour squads was not due to ill will and that he had been requested to play in the ongoing domestic T20 tournament under the Pakis’ watchful care.
