AYANDA DAWETI: ‘IT”S NOT JUST A SHOW’

The Gomora alum Ayanda Daweti reveals to Showmax that Soft Life is not a just show, but a conversation starter.

Daweti portrays the role of Siv Makhaza, whose girlfriend Owami (Zizipho Buti) plunges into the secretive world of high-society companionship.

The actor describes his latest character as a young, passionate, and driven man from an academic family.

“His mother is a lawyer and he’s following in her footsteps. His upbringing has shaped him into a family-oriented individual with clear goals.”

Siv Makhaza, at 27 is already thinking about building a life with the woman he loves, Owami, who comes from a completely different world. She is a township girl from eThembisa, while he comes from a well-off family.

“Siv is fixated on his dream of building a life with Owami, despite their differences, and that determination defines much of his journey,” says the actor.

His on-screen mother is played by legendary actress Nambitha Mpumlwana who portrays a judge in the series.

Daweti adds that people should watch Soft Life because it reflects the realities of our times.

“It’s a story about modern-day aspirations, challenges, and relationships, resonating with both the younger generation and the elders. It’s not just a show, it’s a conversation starter, packed with relatable moments while remaining thoroughly entertaining,” he concludes.

ZIZIPHO BUTI LEADS THE CAST OF ‘SOFT LIFE’

The Showmax drama series, Soft Life is led by Generations: The Legacy alum Zizipho Buti who portrays the role of Owami Gqoji.

Buti recently revealed to Sowetan that she had similar experiences to her Soft Life character in terms of their relationships with their fathers.

“While filming Soft Life and working to understand Owami, I realised how similar our experiences were, particularly in terms of our relationships with our fathers,” says the actress.

She stars opposite Mampho Brescia, Nambitha Mpumlwana and Katlego Lebogang in the drama series, Soft Life.

The 13-episode drama is created by Vusi Zion for Afriprime. It is produced by Urban Brew Studios and directed by SAFTA winners Nozipho Nkelemba and Nthabiseng Mokoena.

Soft Life premiered on Showmax on 2 December with new episodes every Monday.
