Johannesburg’s newest high-rise building nears completion

A major new development rising in the heart of Johannesburg is being positioned as a turning point for the city’s struggling inner core.

After years of decline and limited investment, officials believe this project could help restore confidence in the CBD and attract new economic activity.

It also marks a significant milestone for the city – one not seen in decades.

First new high-rise in Johannesburg CBD in over 20 years

Public Works & Infrastructure Minister Dean Macpherson recently conducted an oversight visit to the construction of the new Johannesburg Deeds Office.

Located at 85 Anderson Street in Marshalltown, the building is the first new high-rise in the Johannesburg CBD in more than 20 years.

The project, valued at approximately R769 million, is already 78% complete, with major structural work finished and façade installations underway.

Boost for the inner city

The new Deeds Office will provide modern facilities for property registration services, while also contributing to broader efforts to revive the city centre.

Macpherson said projects like this can play a key role in restoring investment and economic activity in Johannesburg’s CBD.

He added that well-managed infrastructure developments can help rebuild confidence in South Africa’s urban centres.
